Mission
The Reflection Garden, located off the Commons area of the Deerfield Gables [575 Hospital Rd, New Richmond] and is a place that brings joy, contentment and peace to all. It is a friendly, comfortable and welcoming space that is meant to revive and restore the soul as only nature can do.
Garden paths are designed so that wheelchairs and walkers can easily use them. The paths meander to allow for strolling and contemplation as well as providing private areas with benches for families to gather.
The garden is designed to attract birds with appropriate plants to provide food all year long. Trees from which to hang bird houses and feeders have been carefully chosen to provide interest.
Appropriate plants, shrubs and trees will provide seasonal changes. Perennial favorites from "home"are included in this garden to evoke memories. Plants that attract butterflies are also featured.
An annual garden is included to provide space for growing opportunities for residents. This garden can provide color during the summer months. This raised bed garden has a seating ledge for residents to make the gardening experience easy.
A water feature provides a pleasing and soothing sound. This water feature is at the entrance to the garden to be enjoyed by all, including the birds.
The Rain Garden has been designed to be aneco-friendly water management system for the garden.
Tables, chairs and umbrellas on the patio, as well as seating throughout provide areas to sit and view the garden.
Outdoor lighting provides enjoyment during the evening hours.

June 17; planted 5 Asclepias incarnata/Red Milkweed, 5 Aster novae-angliae/New England Aster, 1 Baptisia lactea/White False Indigo, 5 eupatorium maculatum/Joe Pye Weed, 1 Hibiscus palustris/Rose Mallow, 7 Liatris pycnostachya/Prairie Blazingstar, 5 Lobelia siphilitica/Great Blue Lobelia, 5 Penstemon digitalis/Smooth Penstemon, 4 Phlox glabberima/Marsh phlox, 4 Partenium integrifolium/ Wild Quinine, 4 Ratibida pinnata/Yellow Coneflower, 4 Rudbeckia subtomentosa/Sweet Black Eyed Susan, 4 Solidago ohioensis/Ohio Goldenrod, 5 Vernonia fasciculata/Ironweed, 7 Veronicastrum virginicum/Culver's Root, and 64 Fox Sedge surrounding the garden.
Aug 5-16; CIP crew was used to remove remaining stone mulch along a foundation where shrubs will be planted and then rolling and stacking the sod that member Will and son Ryan cut with rented sod cutters. Earthworks company then moved the donated boulders from member Marcy into place, then installed the rest of the hardscape. Thanks to a generous donation, granite water fountains were also installed during this time.

This was have been a 5-yr project, but with the help of the community, the garden was completed and dedicated in June 2014; a little over a year.

Reflection Garden Partners
The Reglection Garden is a joint project between the Deerfield Gables, Star Prairie Fish and Game, and the Willow River Garden Club. Planning, planting and fundraising will be spearheaded by these groups. Joining these groups will be New Richmond area members of the St Croix Valley Master Gardeners. The gardens will be maintained by members of these groups as well as resident volunteers.
